Again I must ask: Would you say that His main reason to go to the Cross was for us, or His obedience to His father and for the Glory of Himself?
Is it not for the Obedience of His father, to appease his wrath, and we become the beneficiary? Yes, He did die because of His love, but also, for his mercy, grace and above all-His glory.
We must always remember, first above all, God loves His glory and Himself above all-and we should do the same-esteem Him and His glory above all.
I am afraid this 'We are the reason for the season' makes the doctrine of the Cross man centered... We cannot forget, that if we are God centered because He is man centered-then we are man centered. But if we are God centered because He is God centered, then He is God and we are not.
I know what you're saying Drake... but all I was thinking was that... he came, he obeyed... but why was this birth, life, death and resurrection necessary... because we sinned... Christ didn't sin... we did. Because WE sinned (not an accomplishment to be proud of, of course) it became necessary to send a Saviour. In that sense, because we exist... because God created man, and created him to have a relationship with, it was necessary to send Jesus. Therefore... if there were no people, no one but the Trinity and angels in that equation, would there be any reason for him to create the world, free will etc... ?? "The Season" being Christmas a celebration of the birth of the Saviour, happens because, we were doomed without it. The cause and the purpose then being to save man from their sins. We are the "reason the season" was necessary... a relationship with man (his beloved creation) was the purpose for sending Jesus, just as he promised in the garden when Adam and Eve willingly disobeyed God and lost the close relationship they had enjoyed with the Father. That said... Jesus is also of course the reason because if he hadn't willingly come to live the life of a man(but perfectly) and with the attitude of a servant... Christmas wouldn't have happened. Shall we just leave it at, "it takes two to Tango" ? ;P
I see your point... but I still must ask the question, is it the best to emphasis us or Christ. I always caution towards the side of given God the glory and purpose of worship. Anytime it shines on us, I would at least put a disclaimer of how this is such a small detail in the grand scheme of God's providential will and pointing to Him and His glory.
yes.of course the emphasis should be on Christ.. I was just commenting on my sisters little slip up, which turns out to also be accurate in a way.. and then it reminded me of the song.etc.etc...

It is all about His glory.
